Welcome to Great Kingshill Preschool!

We are lucky enough to be based in our own purpose built building which was an addition to the school in 2017.  Being part of the school means that we have access to all of the fantastic facilities and resources that the school has; all the outdoor areas including the woodland learning area, climbing frames, field and MUGA and also the school hall. We have our own indoor and outdoor learning environment which we use daily.

Our aims are to provide a rich environment and meaningful learning opportunities for the children. We want the children to feel happy and secure and to enjoy their time in Preschool and their Personal and Social development is of upmost importance. Most of their time will be spent in play which is the main vehicle for learning. Physical development is a high priority as this will underpin all future learning and development. Communication and Language is another prime area of the Early Years Curriculum to which we give significant time and attention; we focus on speaking and listening and vocabulary development. We introduce lots of technical vocabulary throughout the year relevant to our stories and topics. Through play based activities we also work on Pre Phonics skills to support Phonics and Early Reading skills later on.

Our curriculum is Story Based and involves learning through stories. We link in non-fiction texts so that the children are exposed to a wide range of text and so that they increase their knowledge and understanding in a range of areas.

We enjoy lots of structured group activities such as; Squiggle and Wiggle to support the development of upper body strength and movements which will support early writing, Helicopter Stories where we capture the children’s self-told stories and then perform these together as a class and Woodland Learning trips to the conservation area.

The children also have opportunities throughout the year to visit Reception; they get a chance to play in the Reception area and interact with the staff and the older children. This helps with a smooth transition for the children who will go on to attend Reception meaning that they may feel more confident and settle quickly into their first year of school.

We like to keep in touch with parents and we share a ‘class story’ on the Class Dojo App daily, as well as a personal portfolio entry weekly. This App also has a messaging system which we use for all communications between parents and Preschool teachers.

If you are interested in your child joining Great Kingshill Preschool then we would love to welcome you for a tour of the school. Please contact preschool@gkcs.school for more details.
