attendance including Late/Absence Procedures
If your child is absent for any reason, please call the absence line (01494 713159) or email: attendance@gkcs.school. Please put your child's name and class in the subject heading and give details of symptoms if absent for illness.
Why School Attendance Matters
At our school, we believe that every day counts. Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in helping children achieve their very best and make the most of their time at school.
Helping Every Child Succeed
Children learn new skills, knowledge, and confidence every day they are in school. Missing even a small amount of time can make it harder to keep up with lessons, friendships, and routines.
- They develop stronger friendships and social skills
- They feel more confident and settled in school life
- Pupils who attend regularly are more likely to achieve well academically
Building Good Habits for Life
Good attendance from an early age helps children develop positive habits that will support them throughout their education and future careers.
By attending school every day, children learn:
- Responsibility and commitment
- Timekeeping and organisation
- The importance of being part of a community
Understanding the Impact of Absence
Even what may seem like occasional absence can add up over time:
- 90% attendance = nearly 4 weeks of learning missed in a year
- 95% attendance = around 2 weeks of learning missed
- 100% attendance = giving your child the very best opportunity to succeed
Our Commitment to Supporting Families
We understand that sometimes absence is unavoidable, especially due to illness. Our aim is to work in partnership with families to support excellent attendance for all pupils.
We will:
- Provide a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
- Support families where attendance may be a concern
- Celebrate and reward good and improving attendance
