Christian Ethos

Great Kingshill School is a Church of England voluntary aided school affiliated to the Oxford Diocese.

Aspiring to be our best with kindness, respect and faith.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and love your neighbour as yourself.” Luke 10:27

At Great Kingshill Church of England Combined School,  we promote a love of learning with God as our guide in a safe, happy environment. We challenge and support each other to do our best. Our Christian vision is based around the bible story of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37) as it resonates with our school values of Love, Courage, Forgiveness, Hope, Respect and Truth and guides us in our vision of ‘Aspiring to be our best with kindness, respect and faith.’ Being a Good Samaritan is at the heart of everything we do at Great Kingshill, and this is also reflected in our school song ‘Would you Walk by on the Other Side’ (Cross Over the Road)

Great Kingshill CE School is linked with the beautiful Church of St. Michael and All Angels in Hughenden and the children worship there as a school community at Christmas. The children also participate in key Christian events in school and present assemblies and other performances to their families and the community.

Once a week collective worship is led in school by a member of the Church clergy

We are a church school – what does that mean?

As a church school, Great Kingshill aims to develop its religious character taking into account the principles of the Church of England and promotes Christian values through the experience we offer to all our pupils.

Our school building

  • Our school Christian values of Love, Courage, Forgiveness, Hope, Respect and Truth are displayed around the school.
  • Each classroom has an area for Christian spiritual reflection and prayer.
  • We meet for collective worship daily in our school hall or in the classroom.
  • Our prayer tree sits in the school entrance and all members of our school community are encouraged to write prayers which are then used in the weekly prayer group.

Our Acts of Collective Worship

The daily act of Christian collective worship plays a central role in the life and work at Great Kingshill CE School. It provides us with valuable opportunities to reaffirm our explicitly Christian values and ethos. It offers important opportunities to strengthen our sense of community, belonging and inclusiveness and to reinforce the respect and care we have for each other. Through collective worship we make a significant contribution to the religious, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of those present.
